Admiral Piercey is a 1985 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a nuclear-qualified surface warfare officer. He commanded the USS Howard (DDG-83), the USS Bunker Hill (CG-52), and Carrier Strike Group 9 embarked on board the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) and USS George Washington (CVN-73). His shore assignments included: White House Fellow and special assistant to the deputy director, Office of Management and Budget; director for maritime operations, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic; director for operations, U. S. Pacific Command; and chief of staff, U.S. European Command.
